Leitrim
Leitrim County in Connacht province, n Republic of Ireland, narrowly bounded on the nw by Donegal Bay; the capital is Carrick-on-Shannon. Hilly in the n, undulating in the s, it is drained by the River Shannon and its tributaries. Although farming is the main occupation, the soil is not highly productive. Area: 1525sq km (589sq mi). Pop. (1996) 25,057.
