Hincks, Sir Francis

Hincks, Sir Francis (1807–85) Canadian political leader, b. Ireland. An advocate of reform and cooperation between English and French speakers, he became joint premier with Augustin Morin (1851–54). Later, he was finance minister under Sir John A. Macdonald (1869–73).
