Dean, “Dizzy” ( Jay Hanna) (1911–74) US baseball player. He played (1930–37) for the St. Louis Cardinals. Dean's pitching helped St. Louis win the 1934 World Series. He injured his arm in the All-Star Game (1937) and was traded to the Chicago Cubs. Dean retired in 1941 and became a sports commentator. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953.
