Chichester, Sir Francis Charles

Chichester, Sir Francis Charles (1901–72) English yachtsman and aviator. He embarked on a solo flight between England and Australia in a Gypsy Moth biplane (1929). He began ocean sailing in the 1950s, and won his first solo transatlantic race in 1960. In 1966–67, he circumnavigated the globe single-handed in his boat Gypsy Moth IV.
