Full name, John Lawless Duigan; born June 19, 1949, in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, England; brother of Virginia Duigan (an actress and writer) and Rhoisin Beresford (a writer); uncle of Trilby Beresford (an actress and writer); brother–in–law of Bruce Beresford (a director). Education: University of Melbourne, M.A., philosophy.
