Sacred Heart University was founded in 1963. It is accredited by New England Association of Schools and Colleges. It first offered distance learning courses in 1997. Sacred Heart University offers 3 online degree programs and numerous undergraduate courses in art, business, chemistry, communications, computer science, English, history, mathematics, media studies, music, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, Spanish, and sports management.
For nurses wishing to complete their undergraduate degree, the RN to BSN Program, accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, requires 57 credits in nursing; up to 30 credits may be awarded for previous nursing work. An undergraduate certificate program in home health care management for RNs is available online. Through online work, students can meet all graduate degree requirements for the MSN in patient care services and about 40 percent of the requirements for the MSN family nurse practitioner or may just work on an MSN. Meeting the need for computer-literate teachers, Sacred Heart offers an education technology program with a cross-endorsement in computer technology. MBA prerequisites are available online. The Sports Business University provides business training in leadership skills for the sports industry.
