Wayne G. Failor Scholarships (High School/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide educational assistance to high school seniors graduating from a West Shore School District high school and planning to major in business or a related field at one of the State System universities. Focus: Business. Qualif.: Applicants must be students who are graduating seniors of a West Shore School District high school; full-time undergraduate students who plan to enroll at a State System university; must plan to major in business or a related field; must have a “B” average or better by the end of their junior year in high school. Criteria: Recipients are selected on the basis of financial need.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicants must submit all the required application information. Deadline: May 1.

James Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide recognition and financial assistance to low-income, disadvantaged students residing in the city of Philadelphia who attended any of the public high schools or charter schools in the school district of Philadelphia and who wish to enroll in universities of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must have graduated from any public high school or charter school in the school district of Philadelphia; must be full-time undergraduate students accepted at a PASSHE university, with priority given to incoming freshmen. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $1,500. To Apply: Applicants must submit the James Hughes Memorial Scholarship (JHMS) application form; two written references using the letter of reference form (one academic/professional and one personal); current high school transcript; 250-word essay on why they feel they are deserving of the Hughes scholarship, their desire to achieve academically and how they have overcome adversities in their lives. Deadline: March 31.

Robert Noyce Scholarship Program (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to increase the number of basic education teachers with strong content knowledge in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Focus: Science; Technology; Engineering; Mathematics and mathematical sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must have a qualifying cumulative GPA of 3.00, with preference for those with a GPA of 3.5 or higher; must be transfer students or post-baccalaureates who completed a semester or more of coursework at a State System university to establish the qualifying GPA of 3.00; must be full-time students during each semester for which the award is received. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on academic achievement.

Funds Avail.: $10,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form; official transcripts from all institutions attended; a two page essay describing personal and professional goals, commitment to teaching and personal philosophy of teaching; three letters of recommendation that must address, but are not limited to: a) the scholarship of the applicant, b) the character of the applicant, c) the interpersonal skills of the applicant relative to teaching, and d) the general interpersonal skills of the applicant; and a resume. Deadline: April 20.

Minnie Patton Stayman Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide educational assistance to all the students who are enrolled at PASSHE universities. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must: be residents of Altoona; be full-time undergraduate students who plan to enroll at a Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education university. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit all the required application information.
