Jewish Caucus Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To encourage the participation in NWSA of individuals whose presence enrich the diversity of and increase participation by underrepresented constituencies in the NWSA. Focus: Jewish studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduate students who are enrolled for the current academic year and who have a special interest in the lives, work and culture of Jewish women. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the brief statement of financial need; feminist or community activities; and relevance of the research to NWSA goals. Preference will be given to those whose research show evidence of the application of feminist methodology to the study of Jewish women's experience or expression.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must complete the application form including name and contact information; dissertation/thesis title; two-to-three page abstract of the work; and two letters of recommendation. The Scholarship Review Committee would like applicants to attach a statement of no more than five pages addressing the following: demonstrate your preparation for conducting research in Jewish Women's Studies (please include a one-page abstract of your thesis or dissertation proposal); how have your activities demonstrated your interest in Jewish life and feminist life on campus or in your community; and what additional information about you, such as your background and other influences, might shed light on how you understand the relationship of feminism and Judaism. Deadline: March 1.

National Women's Studies Association Lesbian Scholarships (Doctorate, Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide a $500 research award in recognition of a Master's Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation research project that resonates with the mission of NWSA and the goals of the Lesbian Caucus. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduate students embarking on the doctoral dissertation phase of their academic career. The field of degree is open, but the work should focus on lesbian (defined broadly) lives, identities, or realities and make a contribution to the fields of lesbian and sexuality studies. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the clarity of project description; relevance to mission of NWS, goals of Lesbian Caucus, and field of Women's and Gender Studies; engagement of feminist analytical frameworks and methodologies; and potential impact on the fields of lesbian/sexuality studies.

NWSA Distinguished Fellowships (All/Fellowship)

Purpose: To promote research that contributes to the scholarship or public knowledge about feminism, women of color, Women's Studies, NWSA, or Women's Centers by providing NWSA members with opportunities to complete extended projects. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be members of NWSA and retain their membership through their fellowship if selected; must be faculty or staff members at colleges or universities or independent scholars or writers; must be at least five years into their professional work and must plan to complete the fellowship five or more years before retirement. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the qualifications of candidates and impact of the proposal statement.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicants must submit electronically a completed cover form; a vita not more than eight pages; a proposal statement (maximum of three pages); and three (3) letters of recommendation. Deadline: October 1.

NWSA Graduate Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To encourage the participation in NWSA of individuals whose presence enrich the diversity of and increase participation by underrepresented constituencies in the NWSA. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Program is open to members of NWSA who, in the fall of the year of the award, will be engaged in the research or writing stages of a Master's Thesis or Ph.D. Dissertation in the interdisciplinary field of women's studies. The research project must be on women and must enhance the NWSA mission. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the brief statement of financial need; feminist or community activities; and relevance of the research to NWSA goals.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must complete the application form including name and contact information; dissertation/thesis title; two-to-three page of abstract of the work; and two letters of recommendation.
