The Lagrant Foundation - Graduate Students Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial support for the education of graduate students who belong to one of the following ethnic groups: African American, Asian Pacific American, Hispanic or Native American or Alaska Native. Focus: Public relations; Marketing; Advertising. Qualif.: Applicants must be U.S. citizens and full-time students at a college or university that is accredited by a regional accrediting association; have a minimum of 3.2 GPA; major in a field of study that has an emphasis in public relations, marketing or advertising; have a minimum of two academic semesters left to complete his/her master's degree. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on scholastic performance.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicants must submit a one- to two-page typewritten essay outlining their career goals and why they feel it is important to increase ethnic representation in the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations; must define the role of an advertising, marketing or public relations practitioner (depending on emphasis), including accomplishments relevant to increasing awareness about diversity in their community; brief paragraph explaining graduate school and/or community activities in which they are involved and describing any honors and awards that they have received; and a letter of reference from a professor or internship advisor; resume which should reflect what they would present to a prospective employer, with the career objective clearly stated; official transcripts from college/university; and proof of acceptance to graduate school (if not currently enrolled).

The Lagrant Foundation - Undergraduate Students Scholarship (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial support for the education of undergraduate students who belong to ethnic groups: African American, Asian Pacific American, Hispanic or Native American or Alaska Native. Focus: Public relations; Marketing and distribution; Advertising. Qualif.: Applicants must be U.S. citizens and full-time students at a four-year, accredited institution, carrying a total of 12 units or more per semester/quarter; must have a minimum of 2.75 GPA; and must major in a field of study that has an emphasis on public relations, marketing or advertising or must minor in communications with desire to pursue a career in public relations, marketing or advertising. Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated based on academic performance.

Funds Avail.: No amount specified. To Apply: Applicants must submit a one- to two-page typewritten essay outlining their career goals and what steps they will take to increase the lack of ethnic representation in the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations (must define the role of advertising, marketing or public relations practitioner depending on emphasis); accomplishments relevant to increasing awareness about diversity in their community; brief paragraph describing any honors and awards that they have received (must put the particular dates); a letter of reference from a college professor or internship advisor. Deadline: February 29.

Remarks: If chosen, the applicant must attend the Lagrant Foundation's career development workshop and awards reception to receive the scholarship.
