Dr. Johnella Banks Memorial Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To empower the community through education, service and caring. Focus: Nursing. Qualif.: Applicants must be sophomore, junior or first-semester senior nursing students in a registered nursing or practical nursing program; must be currently enrolled in a National League for Nursing accredited program and be in good academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicants must submit a current official transcript from their nursing program, two letters of recommendation from which one must come from current faculty member and one must come from the Nursing Faculty Advisor or Designee; must submit a written essay that describes the applicant's objectives and need-based reasons for scholarship application; documented evidence to add support for the applicant's desirability that includes participation in student and nursing activities, community service in the Greater Washington area, awards, letters and certificates; must provide a proof of United States citizenship and evidence of financial need. Margaret Pemberton Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To empower the community through education, service and caring. Focus: Nursing. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduating high school senior students who have been accepted into an accredited National League for Nursing baccalaureate program at a college or university in the United States; must be currently enrolled in a District of Columbia High School in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $2,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit an at least one-page long written essay describing personal and educational goals, contributions to the community and reasons they should be selected; must submit documented evidence for support, including participation in activities and organizations, awards, certificates, and/or letters of commendation; must submit an official high school transcript, copy of letter of acceptance to a Baccalaureate Nursing Program in a college or university in the United States of America; must submit two letters of recommendation, from which one must come from a high school counselor or designee and the other one must come from non-related adult who has knowledge of the applicant's potential for
