College Scholarship Awards (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To promote communication for people with hearing loss. Focus: Hearing and Deafness. Qualif.: Must be enrolled in or applied to a mainstream and accredited college/university as a full-time student. Criteria: Award will be given to applicant who has been diagnosed with a moderate to profound hearing loss prior to acquiring a spoken language (pre-lingual hearing loss); Applicants hearing loss must be bilateral and in the moderate to profound range; Spoken communication must be the student's primary mode of communication.

Funds Avail.: $5,000. Number Awarded: Varies. To Apply: Applicants must submit an application, with pages in numbered order; For children who use hearing aids, an unaided Audiogram performed within the last twelve (12) months or for those with cochlear implants, the most recent mapping report (first page only); Verification of the student's application, acceptance or enrollment to a mainstream and accredited university/college; Official transcripts for the most recent two years completed of high school or college; Student essay; Recommendation from a hearing health professional (maximum of two single-sided pages); Recommendation from a current AG Bell member (Maximum of two singe-sided pages). If you do not know an AG Bell member, please provide a recommendation from an educational or therapeutic professional; Recommendation from a non-relative who is familiar with the family's financial need (maximum of two single-sided pages). Deadline: February 15.

George H. Nofer Scholarships for Law and Public Policy (Doctorate, Graduate/Scholarship)

Qualif.: Applicant must be accepted at or recently enrolled in an accredited law school or masters/doctoral program in public policy or public administration as a full-time first year rising graduate student. Criteria: Award will be given to those applicant who has been diagnosed with a moderate to profound hearing loss prior to acquiring spoken language (pre-lingual hearing loss); Applicants hearing loss must be bilateral and in the moderate to profound range; Must have an unaided Pure-Tone Average of 60dB or greater in the better hearing ear in the speech frequencies of 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz. Applicants with cochlear implants meet this eligibility requirement. Unilateral (one-sided) hearing loss does not qualify; Applicants uses spoken language as the primary mode of communication.

To Apply: Applicants must submit an application, with pages in numbered order; For students who use hearing aids, an unaided Audiogram performed within the last twelve months or for those with cochlear implants, the most recent mapping report (first page only); Official transcripts for the most recent two completed years of college. For third year applicants, a transcript of your previous year of study will suffice. Verification of the student's application, acceptance or enrollment to a mainstream and accredited university/college (a readable photocopy of a letter, tuition notice, or other correspondence is acceptable); Student essay (as indicated in the application); Recommendation from a hearing health professional (maximum of two single-sided pages); Recommendation from a current AG Bell member (Maximum of two singe-sided pages). If you do not know an AG Bell member, please provide a recommendation from an educational or therapeutic professional; Recommendation from a non-relative who is familiar with the family's financial need (maximum of two single-sided pages). School Age Financial Aid Program (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To promote communication for people with hearing loss. Focus: Hearing and Deafness. Qualif.: Applicants must be a resident of the United States (including territories) or Canada, and must be enrolled or registered for enrollment on a full-time basis in a parochial, independent or private school in which the child participates in a mainstream setting. Criteria: Awards will be given to those hearing loss has been diagnosed prior to acquiring spoken language (pre-lingual hearing loss); Hearing loss must be in the moderate to profound range: Spoken communication must be the child's primary mode of communication; The child must be at least six years of age and no older than twenty-one (21) years of age on December 31, 2008; Parents/guardians must demonstrate financial need.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. Number Awarded: Varies. To Apply: Applicants must submit an application, with pages in numbered order; For children who use hearing aids, an unaided Audiogram performed within the last twelve months or for those with cochlear implants, the most recent mapping report (first page only); Verification of the child's enrollment, and a narrative from a teacher or principal on the child's progress on school letterhead; Recommendation from a hearing health professional (maximum of two single-sided pages); Recommendation from a current AG Bell member (Maximum of two singe-sided pages).
