Mithraeum. Building dedicated to the cult of Mithras, popular during the Roman Empire, often partly underground and planned on an axis between shelves or loculi on which followers reclined during the mysteries, and with an apse at one end. A good example was discovered in 1870 under the Church of San Clemente, Rome.
