Maitani, Lorenzo (c.1270–1330). Sienese architect, he worked under Pisano at the Cathedral there before being called to Orvieto Cathedral in 1310, where he enlarged the transepts and designed the west front, a fine example of Italian Gothic. He carried out other commissions, and was to all intents and purposes City Architect of Orvieto.
