Henri II

views updated

Henri II ( Henri Deux). Architecture in France from 1547 to 1559 following the reign of François Ier. Italian Renaissance influences became stronger, and arabesques were much favoured, although Gothic traces were never entirely eliminated. Philibert de L' Orme was an active protagonist of the period, notably at Anet, while Bullant also contributed. The style Henri-Deux was revived in C19.
