cavity-wall
cavity-wall. Wall constructed of two leaves or skins (two walls), with a cavity between them. The leaves are given strength by being joined together with metal ties. Cavity-walls were invented to improve insulation and damp-proofing. Certain types of cavity-wall are used for conservatories etc., where it is possible to introduce hot air into the gap.
