Canterbury, Walter of
Canterbury, Walter of (fl.1319–27). Master-mason. He rebuilt the outer curtain-wall at the Tower of London beside the Traitors' Gate (1324–5), and about the same time he was engaged on work at the lower part of St Stephen's Chapel, Palace of Westminster, where he probably designed the vaults and window-tracery (completed 1327). His masterpiece is the tomb of Aymer de Valance (d. 1323) in Westminster Abbey.
