1. In corals (see COMPOUND CORALS), applied to a colony formed by the irregular branching of corallites. The individual corallites are separated from one another but may be connected by tubules.

2. In graptolites (Graptolithina), applied to a bushy colony formed by irregular branching of the stipes.
