Kelly, George Alexander (1905–66) An American psychologist who pioneered personal construct theory and the ‘role construct repertory test’. Kelly argued, in The Psychology of Personal Constructs (1955), that ‘a person's processes are psychologically channelized by the ways in which he anticipates events’. Such constructs are the central subject of psychology. See also COGNITIVE THEORY.
