Comp. 5 operas, 3 syms., ob. conc., incidental mus., choral works, cantatas, church mus., but best known for waltz Dusk and for his many songs, several being settings of Walter De La Mare (such as the popular Five Eyes). Festival adjudicator 1923–52.
