Cromagnon man
Cromagnon man The earliest form of modern humans (Homo sapiens), which is believed to have appeared in Europe about 35 000 years ago and at least 70 000 years ago in Africa and Asia. Fossils indicate that these hominids were taller and more delicate than
Neanderthal man, which they replaced. They used intricately worked tools of stone and bone and left the famous cave drawings at Lascaux in the Dordogne. The name is derived from the site at Cromagnon, France, where the first fossils were found in 1868.
