Eloi, St (c.588–660), bishop of Noyon, pioneer apostle in much of Flanders. He was a skilled metalworker. His main emblem is a horseshoe, though like St Dunstan he is also shown holding the Devil by the nose with a pair of pincers. His feast day is 1 December, and the feast of his translation is 25 June.
