Alberich in German legend, the king of the elves, equivalent of French Oberon; in the Nibelungenlied he is the guardian of the Nibelung treasure who is defeated by Siegfried. In Wagner's Ring Cycle, Alberich is a dwarf who steals the Rhinemaidens' gold.
