Albéniz, Mateo (Antonio Pérez de)
Albéniz, Mateo (Antonio Pérez de), Spanish composer, father of Pedro Albéniz y Basanta; b. Basque region, c. 1755; d. San Sebastián, June 23, 1831. He was maestro de capilla in San Sebastián, then at the collegiate church in Logroño (1795–1800), and finally at S. Maria la Redonda in San Sebastián (1800–29). He publ. Instrucción melódica, especulativa, y practica, para enseñar a cantar y a tañer la música moderna y antigua (San Sebastián, 1802) and composed much church music.
