opera buffa

opera buffa Style of Italian comic opera that developed in mid-18th-century Naples. Light and simple in style, it introduced the elaborate finale which influenced the subsequent development of opera. An early example of the style is La Serva Padrona (1733) by Giovanni Pergolesi.
