learning Acquisition of skills and concepts by a variety of processes. There have been many different theories of how learning takes place. The oldest theories hold learning to be an associative process by which ideas, images and events become linked in the mind. Behaviourists believe that learning is related to conditioning. Gestalt psychology deals with such learning potentials as problem solving; cognitive psychology concentrates on mental processes such as concept formation. Modern researchers tend to investigate particular problems, rather than formulating universal theories.
