homicide
homicide In law, killing of a person by another. The various legal definitions depend on the circumstances of the killing. A distinction is made between premeditated murder, murder with some mitigating circumstances (such as when the balance of the killer's mind is temporarily disturbed), justifiable homicide (which may sometimes include mercy-killing or the killing of a suspect by a police officer in a shoot-out), and killing by negligence.
