genetic fingerprinting
genetic fingerprinting Forensic technique pioneered by Alec Jeffreys, using genetic material, specifically the
DNA within sample body cells, to identify individuals. It is used in paternity suits to detect the true father of a child, and sometimes in rape cases. The technique was first used in a court of law in the late 1980s.
