Thérèse of Lisieux, Saint

Thérèse of Lisieux, Saint (1873–97) ( Marie Françoise Thérèse Martin) French Carmelite nun. She entered the convent at Lisieux, n France, at the age of 15. Later she suffered from depression and religious doubts, which she mastered by prayer. She died of tuberculosis. She chronicled her spiritual struggle in a series of letters, Story of a Soul (1898). She was canonized in 1925. Her feast day is October 1.
