Renaissance music
Renaissance music Music composed in Europe from
c.1400 to 1600. It was mainly religious vocal
polyphony, usually a
mass or
motet. Non-religious music was mainly in the form of songs – Italian and English
madrigals, French
chansons, German
Lieder – and some instrumental music for organ, clavier, lute, or for small ensembles. Renaissance composers include
Palestrina,
Lasso,
Byrd, and
Gabrieli.
