Japanese theatre Various dramatic forms, including No drama, puppet theatre, and kabuki theatre. Japanese theatre descended from ritual dances, and involves music, song and dance in addition to dialogue. More modern styles of drama, known as shinpa and shingeki (new theatre), which were influenced by Western theatre, developed out of the desire to portray modern events and ideas in a more realistic style.
