Du Bois, W.E.B.

Du Bois, W.E.B. ( William Edward Burghardt) (1868–1963) US civil-rights leader, writer, and educator. In 1905, he co-founded the Niagara movement that evolved into the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He also helped organize the First Pan-Africanist Congress (1919). His works include The Souls of Black Folk (1903). See also Pan-Africanism
