Borglum, (John) Gutzon (1867–1941) US sculptor. From a six-ton marble block he fashioned a head of Abraham Lincoln, which now stands in the Capitol rotunda in Washington, D.C. His last and most exacting project was to carve the heads of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt in a rock face at Mount Rushmore, South Dakota. The final details were completed by his son.
