Śivananda

Śivananda (1887–1963). Hindu founder of the Divine Life Mission. In 1923, he entered on the path of renunciation, becoming a saṃnyāsin in 1924. After twelve years of ascetic preparation, he founded the Śivananda āśram and the Divine Life Society. This is basically advaitin, involves a form of Hatha yoga, and aims to be non-sectarian. The Mission now has branches worldwide.
