Kālikā-purāṇa

Kālikā-purāṇa. A Hindu ritual and mythological work in Skt., belonging to the genre of the upa-purāṇas. It is a fairly amorphous compilation of material connected with the worship of the Hindu Goddess (see KĀLĪ). In its present form (which may well be as late as the 13th or 14th cent., put together in Assam or a neighbouring part of Bengal), the text has as its central figure the Goddess Kāmākhyā. Her temple in Assam is one of the pīṭhas, and is said to derive from Satī's yoni.
