Cullinan, Edward (1931– ). British architect. His practice has produced a large number of schemes in which the conflict of discrepancies is expressed. Some critics have detected
vernacular themes in his work, but this does not stand up to serious examination. His best-known work is perhaps the Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Visitors' Centre, Yorkshire (1987–92). More recently, he designed a new landmark in east London: the
campus of the University of East London on a windy site (formerly part of the Royal Albert Dock) opposite the City of London Airport.
