PÉTER'S PERSEVERANCE
Péter held no permanent job for eighteen years after graduating from college because, Hungary, as an ally of Nazi Germany, engaged in academic purges aimed at eliminating Jews and others whom the Nazis considered "enemies" from serving on school faculties. Instead, she tutored students and took temporary teaching assignments for financial support. But her lack of employment did not prevent her from establishing herself as a world leader in mathematical logic.
