HDTV • abbr. high-definition television, using more lines per frame to give a sharper image than a conventional television.

HDTV Abbrev. for high-definition television system. A new television format that produces images of similar quality to 35 mm film. The screen size will normally be on 56 inch tubes or larger, with at least 1100 scan lines. Several different formats are currently under development.
