ovarian cyst
ovarian cyst n. a benign tumour of the ovary, of which there are many varieties. Although most ovarian cysts are not malignant, they may reach a very large size and rotate on their stalks, thus cutting off their blood supply and causing severe abdominal pain and vomiting; in such cases the cysts require urgent surgical removal.
