clinical supervision
clinical supervision n. a formal process of professional support and learning that enables individual practitioners to develop knowledge and competence, assume responsibility for their own practice, and enhance patient protection and safety of care in a wide range of situations. The Nursing and Midwifery Council recognizes clinical supervision as an important part of clinical governance and a means of maintaining and improving standards of patient care. Clinical supervision is a statutory requirement for midwives but not for nurses or health visitors.
