SIDELIGHTS: Sally Stewart told CA: "My primary motivations for writing are to make a little money and for the pleasure of stringing words together.

"Influences on my writing include Jane Austen, for precision and perfection of prose, Georgette Heyer, for wit and irony, and most other authors in between.

"I write in longhand, and my long-suffering husband converts it into typescript offerable to a publisher.

"I am inspired by the oddities of people and the color and variety of places visited—in the United Kingdom obviously, but also abroad—in Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Russia, et cetera."
