Yriarte (Iriarte), Tomás de
Yriarte (Iriarte), Tomás de, Spanish poet and musician; b. Puerto de la Cruz de Orotava, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Sept. 18, 1750; d. Santa Maria, near Cádiz, Sept. 17, 1791. He studied in Madrid. He was secretary at the Chancellery of State in Madrid and chief archivist at the Ministry of War. His literary works include a long didactic poem, La música (Madrid, 1779; Eng. tr., 1807). He composed tonadillas and some vocal and instrumental music.
