Yakovlev, Leonid
Yakovlev, Leonid, Russian baritone; b. Kherson government, April 12, 1858; d. Petrograd, June 2, 1919. After training with Ryadnov in Kiev, he completed his studies in Italy. He commenced his career in Tiflis. In 1887 he joined the Maryinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, where he sang in the premiere of Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades (Dec. 19, 1890). In 1906 he retired from the operatic stage to teach voice. He also was active as an opera producer at the Maryinsky Theater.
