Watson, Claire (née McLamore) (b NY, 1927; d Utting am Ammersee, 1986). Amer. soprano. Opera début Graz 1951 (Desdemona in Otello). Member of Frankfurt Opera 1956–8; Bavarian State Opera, Munich, 1958–76. Débuts: CG 1958; Glyndebourne 1960; Salzburg 1966. Roles incl. Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes), which she recorded with Britten.
