Waldteufel [Lévy], Emil (b Strasbourg, 1837; d Paris, 1915). Fr. (Alsatian) composer and pianist. Court pianist and dir. of court balls from 1865. Cond. at CG promenade concerts 1885. Wrote over 250 dances, especially waltzes, incl. España (1886, after Chabrier), Estudiantina (1883), and Les Patineurs (Skaters) (1882).
