Wahlberg, Rune

Wahlberg, Rune, Swedish conductor, pianist, and composer; b. Gavie, March 15, 1910; d. there, Jan. 26, 1999. He received training in piano, conducting, and composition at the Stockholm Musikhögskolan (1928-35) and in conducting at the Leipzig Cons. (1936-37; diploma, 1937). He made tours as a pianist. After serving as music director of the Göteborg City Theater (1943-51), he was municipal music director in Kramfors (1953-57), Hofors (1957-64), Härnösand (1964-69), and Hudiksvall (1969-75). His music generally followed along romantic lines with expressionistic infusions.
