Titov, Sergei Nikolaievich
Titov, Sergei Nikolaievich, Russian violinist, cellist, and composer, brother of Alexei Nikolaievich Titov; b. St. Petersburg, 1770; d. 1825. He rose to major general in the army. His best known works were the opera Krestyane, ili Vstrecha nezvanikh (The Peasants, or the Party for the Uninvited; 1814) and the ballet Noviy Verter (The New Werther). His son, Nikolai Sergeievich Titov (b. probably in St. Petersburg, 1798; d. 1843), also pursued a military career; also was a fine composer of songs, which included the popular Talisman (1829).
