Taubmann, Otto

Taubmann, Otto, German conductor, music critic, and composer; b. Hamburg, March 8, 1859; d. Berlin, July 4, 1929. After graduation from school, he followed a commercial career for 3 years; then studied music under Wüllner, Rischbieter, Nicodé, and Blassmann at the Dresden Cons.; traveled a year for further study. He began his career as a theater conductor, and from 1886 to 1889 was director of the Wiesbaden Cons. In 1891-92 he was theater conductor in St. Petersburg, and from 1892 to 1895 conductor of the Cäcilienverein in Ludwigshafen. He then settled in Berlin, where from 1898 he was music critic of the Börsen-Courier; also taught at the Hochschule für Musik (1920-25).
