Takeda, Yoshimi
Takeda, Yoshimi, Japanese conductor; b. Yokohama, Feb. 3, 1933. He was educated at the Tokyo Univ. of the Arts (graduated, 1958); then went to the U.S. on a fellowship to work with George Szell and the Cleveland Orch. (1962-64). In 1964 he became assoc. conductor of the Honolulu Sym. Orch.; in 1970 he was appointed music director of the Albuquerque (later N.Mex.) Sym. Orch., a position he held until 1985; in addition, he was music director of the Kalamazoo Sym. Orch. (from 1974). He also appeared as a guest conductor with major orchs. in North America, Europe, and Japan.
