Stone, Kurt, German-American musicologist; b. Hamburg, Nov. 14, 1911; d. Wilmington, N.C., June 15, 1989. He studied music in Hamburg and Copenhagen. He went to N.Y. in 1938 as a teacher at the Dalcroze School of Music; also worked for various music publishers from 1942; contributed knowledgeable articles on modern music and composers to various periodicals. With his wife, he ed. The writing of Elliott Carter (1977); publ. Music Notation in the Twentieth Century: A Practical Guide (1980).
