Schneider-Siemssen, Günther (b Augsburg, 1926). Ger.-born Austrian designer. Designed for plays and films in Berlin and Munich 1947–54 and for Salzburg marionette th. 1952–72. Designed his first Ring from 1954 in Bremen, and Ring cycles at CG (1962–4), Salzburg Easter Fest. (1967–70), and NY Met (1967–72 and 1986–91). Notable collab. with Karajan in Vienna and Salzburg. CG début 1962. Aims for realistic effects with modern methods, incl. subtle use of lighting.
